POSITION: Marketing Coordinator

REPORTING TO: Director & Founder, Lauren Taylor

STATUS: Contractor; 5 – 10 hours per week with room to grow

LOCATION: Remote; must be in the continental United States (any time zone)

COMPENSATION: $24-28 per hour

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

Lauren is a skilled trainer and activist with more than 35 years of experience who loves empowering women, girls, LGBTQIA+ people, and others targeted for harassment, abuse, and assault. She and her team have trained more than 40,000 people of all ages and walks of life in the Washington, D.C., area and nationally.

You’ll also work with our Deputy Director, who handles operations and client relations, and our web designer/tech vendor. As we continue to grow, we look forward to partnering with a Marketing Coordinator who oversees all the marketing, promotions, publicity, and outreach activities of our organization, with filling classes a priority. This is a fully remote, contractor position based in the continental United States; we accept applicants in any time zone. This position will require 5-10 hours per week with room to grow.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We’re seeking a badass Marketing Coordinator to manage our marketing assets and implement our marketing strategy. We need you to bring your marketing savvy, creativity, attention to detail, and experience in content creation and social media to support a high level and incredibly scheduled creator, entrepreneur, and equity leader. We’d like you to step into the marketing processes we’ve created to implement our marketing strategy, managing our content, and tracking our metrics.

THE ROLE IS PERFECT FOR YOU IF

  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • You have a bachelor’s or associate’s degree in marketing/communications or related, or equivalent work experience.
  • You have at least two years of experience in public relations, content management, creative writing, advertising concepts, and media negotiations.
  • You have expert knowledge of Content Management Systems (CMS).
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office, Photoshop, and web editing packages.
  • You have excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify and address problems quickly and effectively.
  • You are a person of integrity who’s able to make commitments and follow through.
  • You are a self-starter and quick learner with a strong desire to help others do their best.
  • You have strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and adapt as priorities change.
  • You take initiative.
  • You stay on top of the procedures and work flow of the organization.
  • You are committed to Defend Yourself’s mission and have a genuine interest in growing with the organization and the movement to end gender-based violence.
  • You are feminist and anti-racist.
  • Nonprofit experience is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing online and social media platforms such as:
    • LinkedIn
    • Facebook
    • Instagram
    • Twitter
    • YouTube
  • Promoting and publicizing current and future events with a focus on filling classes.
  • Implementing marketing plans that include print, broadcast, and online content for book and speaking tours.
  • Managing our CRM.
  • Developing strategic marketing initiatives and activities.
  • Looking for opportunities to improve our marketing strategy.
  • Researching vendors, orders, merch, and supplies for the marketing, public relations, and outreach functions of the organization.
  • Coordinating budget, services, and equipment for the marketing, public relations, and outreach functions of the organization.
  • Liaising with relevant staff.
  • Observing, reviewing, and analyzing processes to identify inefficiencies and areas where improvements could be made.
